A Starfish Story is a documentary by filmmakers Ruben de Kemp and Semme de Loor that highlights the importance of spaying and neutering in underserved communities in Namibia.
The film follows the work of Dr. Ian Baines, a veterinarian who has been deeply committed for many years to improving the lives of animals and the communities that care for them. Through tireless on-the-ground work, he has dedicated himself to providing veterinary care, promoting education, and helping communities address the challenges of uncontrolled animal populations.
Dr. Baines’s work goes far beyond treating animals. By raising awareness of responsible pet ownership and the importance of spay-and-neuter initiatives, he helps prevent animal suffering, supports the well-being of families, and strengthens the special bond between children and their pets.
A Starfish Story shines a light on the realities faced by communities with limited access to veterinary services and demonstrates the meaningful difference that long-term commitment and preventive work can make for both animals and people.
