A Sanctuary Built on Love — Now in Urgent Need of Rescue

Reni van der Merwe is the founder of Bubu’s Animal Haven — a sanctuary where animals who have been abandoned, abused, neglected, unwanted, injured, or at risk of euthanasia find safety, healing, and love.

For years, Reni and her small team have opened their arms to animals with nowhere else to go — offering them not just shelter, but a forever home filled with dignity, compassion, and care. From broken bones to broken spirits, they have mended both — and in return, these animals have shown the purest forms of gratitude and trust.

At Bubu’s Animal Haven, pet animals, farm animals, and wildlife have all found refuge. Each creature is rehabilitated and, when possible, released back into the wild. For those who cannot return to freedom, the sanctuary provides lifelong care, safety, and love.

But now, they are the ones who need rescuing.

Due to circumstances beyond their control, Reni and her animals must urgently relocate the entire sanctuary. The good news is that there’s a new home waiting — a piece of land that Reni inherited from her family, the very place where she grew up. It’s a space full of promise — where Bubu’s Animal Haven can finally be safe, permanent, and truly forever.

The challenge?
The land is completely undeveloped.
No fences. No shelters. No power. No water. No accommodation.

Currently, only one cat shelter is under construction. There is nowhere yet for the other animals to go — and time is running out.

Among those needing care are dogs, cats, African grey parrots, goats, cows, ostriches, and many other animals.
